NIGERIA (Anambra)-The Anambra State House of Assembly has declared its readiness to wage war against sachet and table water companies in the state.
This was revealed on Wednesday in Awka by the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Dr. Emeka Aniebonam after an inspection of some sachet water processing plants in the state by his committee.
According to him, what the committee saw during the inspection period was shocking as all the plants were producing what he described as “unwholesome water for the consumption of the public”.
The House committee said it would do a proper report and recommendation to the government after it would have completed a comprehensive inspection of the water plants in the state.
For more than 10 years, Anambarians have not enjoyed public water supply system after government failed to honour its obligations to workers of the Anambra State Water Corporation.
Though government has engaged some foreign contractors to rehabilitate the Onitsha water scheme and several mini-water stations have been inaugurated in Awka, Nnewi, Abagana among other communities, none of the plants is functioning.
