NIGERIA (Osun)-The Federal Road Safety Commission on Wednesday said it had issued 46,338 new number plates to motorists in Osun in 2013.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Muhammed Husaini, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo.

Husaini said the commission had also issued 12,825 new driving licences to motorists during the period.

He attributed the high figures to the rush by motorists to meet up with the deadline issued by the commission to acquire the new number plates.

He said the extension of the deadline to June had provided more time to those who could not meet the requirement to acquire them.

He said the commission would not fail to apprehend motorists who defaulted by the expiration of the deadline.
