MALAWI— As the drive to get rid Lilongwe of notorious criminals, Lilongwe Resident Magistrate Court has sentenced a 42- year- old man who has over the years been convicted of receiving stolen property to two years imprisonment with hard labour.

Central Region Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent John Namalenga identified the man as Kalimeki Chintolo from Njewa village, Traditional Authority Njewa village labeling him as a notorious criminal.

"The convict has been involved in such cases for many years in the area of TA Njewa. He was arrested five months ago by police.

"This time he was found with household items stolen from houses whose owners had reported the incidents," said Namalenga.

According to Namalenga, Chontolo, whose nickname is Ntolo, is believed to be the force behind series of break-ins basing on the fact that criminal activities are not reported each time he is in custody.

"The suspect has been buying stolen property from criminals for a long time and each time he is convicted, crime rate in the area of TA Njewa goes down. We believe he encourages criminals to steal property for him," said Namalenga.
