NIGERIAN AGENCY, NEMA, REMARKABLE IN RENDERING EMERGENCY AID -ALHAJI MUHAMMED SANI

The National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria has never fall back in its stride to render humanitarian assistance to countries faced with emergency situation.

The Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Muhammed Sanni noted this while addressing the 2013 Humanitarian Affair Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council in Geneva, Switzerland, stating that precisely 19 countries have benefitted 22 times from Nigeria Emergency Aid.

The humanitarian assistance donated, the Director General of NEMA has said to be mostly in the form of cash and relief items, adding that the kind gesture Nigeria through the Agency in this aspect has advanced into intimate cooperation of Nigeria with other countries in Disaster Management.

He further revealed that Nigeria has presently entered into agreement with Gambia to share information, assets and manpower of effective disaster management and humanitarian service.

He also revealed that Nigeria has also received some humanitarian relief donation through NEMA from the international community in the aid of people that were affected by disaster, adding that Nigeria is at present on aid mission in Gambia to render assistance to the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) of the country in developing institutional framework and capacity building.
