Election into the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo will hold between January 6 and 9.
The outgoing leadership of the organisation, led by Professor Enwo Gary Igariwey alongside Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, would handover to a new and elected leadership of the organization on January 12. Already, the organisation’s inner caucus (Imeobi) which met last week, has ratified the election time table released by the Ohanaeze electoral committee, chaired by Professor Anya O. Anya.
CEOAFRICA source gathered yesterday that the election into various local government officials of the organisation in the respective councils across the South- East zone and the Igbo speaking tribes of Rivers and Delta states will commence on Friday, January 6.
The election will be followed by the state elections on January 7 while the national election to produce the President General and other members of the National executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will hold on January 9 at the National Secretariat of the organization located at 7 Parks Avenue, G.R.A, Enugu.
Speaking with newsmen, the outgoing President-General, Igariwey, who presided over the ‘Imeobi’ meeting, disclosed that the newly elected executive will hand over the mantle of leadership on January 12, stating he was not willing to stay a day longer on the seat at the expiration of his four year constitutional guaranteed tenure.
Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, who corroborated Igariwey’s statement disclosed that a 50 man election monitoring committee had been appointed to superintendent over all the election while thirty of the fifty will be deployed to superintend over the local government and state elections of Ohanaeze holding on 6th and 7th January, the electoral committee, headed by Professor Anya O. Anya will supervise the National executive election on January 9.
