Women are vital to Nigeria’s survival – Govs.

The OYO State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi alongside  his Osun and Lagos states’ counterparts, Rauf Aregbesola and Akinwunmi Ambode, have described women roles as vital to Nigeria’s development and survival.

According to ceoafrica, they made the description in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital at the 5th National Women Summit, organised by Oyo State Officials’ Wives Association (OYSOWA), themed ‘The ultimate woman at a time like this”.

The three-day summit had in attendance, Governors Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari, represented by wife of the Zamfara State governor, Mrs Asaan Yari.

Also present were first ladies namely Mrs Florence Ajimobi (Oyo), Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola (Osun), Mrs Bolanle Ambode (Lagos), Mrs Omolewa Ahmed (Kwara), Mrs Nkechinyere Okorocha (Imo).

Abiola Ajimobi who hinted that the role of women in the family and nation is very important in nurturing and building the home wherever they exist, clamoured for female education.

In the same vein, the Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola said that the future of a society is determined by the quality of women in that society as the most resilient of humanity are females who survive anywhere in the world.

Urging mothers to protect their children from all ills, he frowned at the female genital mutilation, saying that the act was psychologically demeaning, unhealthy, barbaric and evil.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, on his part, stated that women had always lived up to expectation, and admonished them to be more committed to remove the nation out of austerity.

 Speaking, Aisha Buhari who was represented by Mrs Assan Yari assured of the continuation of programmes that elevate the status of women in Nigeria, tasked women to support their spouses, and contribute to nation building.

Host, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, who prayed for the emergence of influential women, harped on the need for women to stand against all odds and launch themselves into limelight.

Mrs Nkechinyere Okorocha ,the Chairperson, Southern Governors’ Wives Forum, noted the critical role of women in bringing about national development and expressed optimism that recession will become history and Nigerians would experience the desired change.
