A top aide to Burundi's president, Pierre Nkurunziza, escaped assassination from gunmen in Burundi Capital, Bujumbura, on Monday night.
According to ceoafrica, the aide, Willy Nyamitwe was attacked beside his home by gunmen who hid in an uncompleted building.
The attackers used grenade and guns, which claimed his bodyguard's life.
Willy’s brother, Alain Aime Nyamitwe, who is also the country's foreign minister, announced on social media that his brother survived the attack.
The attack is one of the political violence that Burundians have been experiencing since President Nkurunziza’s announcement of third term bid in 2015
Nyamitwe possesses a high profile on media platforms where he defends the regime against criticism from the international community regarding accusations of human rights violations.
