Mr Babatunde Fashola , Minister of Works, Power and Housing, will deliver this year’s Univeristy of Benin 42nd Convocation lecture. Also, a former Minister of State for Works, Dr Chris Ogiemwonyi is expected to deliver the founders’ day lecture at the event.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Faraday Orumwense stated this yesterday during a press conference held on the activities heralding the 42nd convocation/founders day ceremony of the institution. He said at least 61 graduates would be awarded First Class degree during the occasion.
Prof. Orumwense said, a total of 154 Doctorate Degree (Ph. D); 2, 531 Masters; 233 Post graduate Diploma; 9, 281 undergraduate degree; 95 undergraduate Diploma and 514 unclassified degrees will be awarded during the ceremony.
He noted that Honorary degrees and Professor Emeritus will also be conferred on deserving individuals while the first ever Hall of Fame award will be bestowed on former Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Osayuki Oshiodin for his hard work, excellence, scholarship, mentorship, diligence, innovation, leadership, community service, creativity and entrepreneurship.
He said the peace witnessed in the school has been as result of dialogue and consultation between the management and the students, stressing that based National University Commission’s (NUC) directives and JAMB, the institution had admitted prospective students.
He said: “At this year’s convocation, a total of 12,808 graduands are to be awarded various diplomas and degrees of the University.”
