The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump, urging him to formulate policies that would benefit Africa after assumption of office.
According to CEOAFRICA’s source, Daily trust, the Spokesman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye in a statement on Wednesday said Trump’s victory came against many odds and showed the strength of democracy in the US.
"The campaigns that preceded these elections have been hard fought and sometimes fractious in a manner that has taken its toll on the American people.
"We urge President-Elect Trump to move quickly and heal the divides and to reassure all Americans, particularly its minorities, that his administration will pursue policies and programmes that protects and promotes all their constitutional rights and freedoms.
"We also urge President-elect Trump to quickly formulate policies that will ensure a mutually beneficial relationship between the US and Africa in general, and Nigeria in particular. At this time, the US and Nigeria must work harder to deepen mutual security and economic interests," the party said.
The party also commended Trump's closest rival Hillary Clinton on her hard-fought campaigns, saying she proved to be a role model for young men, women and children all over the world.
Similarly, the PDP Governors' Forum has congratulated Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on his victory at the Supreme Court, saying with his victory, the Forum has strong regards for the judiciary.
The PDP Governors' Forum (PDPGF) in a statement by its Secretary, Patrick Okon today, said the governor will now have enough time to focus on governance and deliver dividend of democracy to the people.
