Donald Trump’s emergence as 45th President of America has triggered some reactions from Nigerians on Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka’s comment that “The moment they announce his (Trump) victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”
According to CEOAFRICA’s source, Leadership, on the social media, Wednesday, Nigerians have called on Soyinka to tear his green card, following the vow he made, should Donald Trump become the president of the United States.
Soyinka made the vow last week while giving a speech to students of Oxford University, England.
According to the literary doyen, “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that.”
“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up,” said Soyinka, who is scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs..
Twitter went agog as soon as the results was announced as some Nigerians reminded Soyinka of his vow, and others dragging him to the mud for ‘just opening his mouth to talk.’
