The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has commended the Nigerian Army for respect of human rights and adhering to the international best practice while carrying out war against insurgents in north eastern Nigeria.
The Chairman NBA Maiduguri Chapter, Barrister Baba Kura Kaka, made the remark during a courtesy call on the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu, at the Division Headquarters Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
The chairman who was accompanied on the visit by other executives of the chapter also commended the Nigerian Army for the successes recorded so far in the fight against insurgency in the region, which according to him, has brought back normalcy to the state. He also paid glowing tribute to the fallen heroes who gave their lives for others to live.
He used the medium to congratulate the Nigerian troops for their gallant role in the rescue of some of the abducted Chibok girls recently and urged them to double their efforts so the remaining girls will be rescued. On the ongoing General Court Marshal, the chairman added that the establishment of the court has once again shown respect for human and rule of law by the Nigerian Army.
He however called on the army authority to always involve NBA: "when releasing screened and released Boko Haram suspects."The acting GOC in his remark thanked the chairman and executives for the visit, which he said will encourage collaboration and more robust relationshipmbetween the two organisations.
He described NBA as critical partners in the fight against insurgency and assured the visiting team that the Boko Haram potency has been reduced and decimated. He promised to sustain the campaign until the last Boko Haram member is rooted out of Nigeria.
