FORMER Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has described the proposed creation of 35 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state as a plan to avoid the conduct of local government elections, which is yet to be conducted five years after assumption of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in office.

Ladoja said the Accord Party views the move as a booby trap that could provoke the opposition party to take the legal option which the state government would now use as an excuse to further delay the conduct of the election. He said this yesterday, while addressing newsmen in Ibadan. Governor Ajimobi, had said during the swearing-in of the 33 caretaker chairmen to local governments in the state that they had just three months after which the council elections would be conducted. Local government election was last conducted in the state on December 15, 2007, during the Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala administration.

Ladoja said: “I don’t know the reason why the local government election has not been conducted. It is wrong for any government not to allow constitution to take its place. Local elections are supposed to be conducted but they give reasons why they should not be conducted.”
