President Muhammadu Buhari’s congratulatory message to Godwin Obaseki as governor-elect of Edo State has finally revealed his hand in the state’s gubernatorial election imbroglio, the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi has said.

In a statement yesterday, the spokesman of the PDP’s Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said Buhari has never extended similar congratulatory messages or goodwill to PDP candidates who were victorious in various elections since he assumed office last year.

The PDP said the action of the president belies his statement that he belongs to nobody but belongs to everybody, adding that the Edo election has shown where he belongs. The party stressed that it also joined its Edo State chapter in rejecting the result of the election.

The party said the President “refused” to congratulate its candidate, Governor Seriake Dickson who against all odds managed to survive the APC onslaught” and won the Bayelsa State governorship election for a second term some months ago.
