CRIME and booze go hand in hand.

This is why cops and community patrollers came out in force over the weekend to shut down illegal shebeens in Evaton, Ekurhuleni.

Several arrests were made as cops bust taverns for selling liquor without licences.

Police spokesman Aubrey Moopeloa said: “The majority of the crimes committed in Evaton are liquor related. We are fighting crime from the root of the problem.

“Non-compliance with the Liquor Act will not be tolerated.”

The surprise raid operation proved to be very successful and several illegal shebeens were closed down.
