A teenager, Jessica Beer, has committed suicide in a Makurdi suburb of Benue State after her boyfriend allegedly got her pregnant and abandoned her.
Daily Trust gathered that the 19-year-old deceased had on Monday taken some poisonous substance on account that her meat dealer boyfriend jilted her for another lover who is also pregnant for him.

It was learnt that Jessica, a junior secondary school II student of Dyegeh Memorial College in Logo, Makurdi, was rushed to Yaman clinic in Akpehe around Wurukum area of the town but could not survive the venom of the poison.

Police Spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu who confirmed the incident, said the matter was reported to the police by the deceased’s boyfriend who alleged that he went to visit the girl and met her gasping for breath and rushed her to a nearby clinic where she died as efforts to save her failed.

The deceased’s schoolmaster, Timothy Tyoyange, said Jessica Beer was an average intelligent student and a beautiful girl who, during the last speech, prize and graduation day, contested for the Miss Dyege pageant organised by the college and won the crown.
