Former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, has advised the All Progressive Congress (APC) to project into the future in order to make policies that would benefit the present and the long run.
Senator Folarin made this statement during an interactive session with pressmen where he addressed pressing economical issues.
The senator said the Eid-el-Kabir celebration is a time for rededication of lives to God, adding that Islamic tenets must be upheld according to one’s might.
Commenting on the economy, Senator Teslim Folarin, lamented the nation’s economic challenge, which is affecting all. “Imagine a situation where parents can’t afford their children’s school fees. A bag of rice goes for N22, 000 whereas; minimum wage goes for N18, 000. He decried the dearth of resources for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations due to the economic regression.”
On his stance of peoples’ standard of living, the senator stressed the need for youth education and empowerment adding that some lives are wasting away.
“All hands must be on deck for the economy’s resuscitation. For how long will lamentations continue about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure for the current administration? We should stop rotating in one place. The government should think out of box in other to move the country forward.
What we are getting for free here, go to Mexico, Thailand and other developed countries, they are going through a lot for their processing and they are turning it into great wealth.
“Our cassavas here are processed into so many foods in Thailand, Mexico, There are mashed beans like Potato. Yet, In Nigeria, we have different types of beans. It’s high time we forecast into the future. Crude oil mustn’t be our only dependence anymore.
.“During my campaign for the Oyo State’s governorship seat, I made my intention known to declare state of emergency in education. Education will make our youth to think on how to empower themselves and make the country great again.
Education and agriculture is one of the ways we can come out of our current predicament in Oyo state and Nigeria as a whole.
It’s just disheartening that Oyo State with many natural resources are cannot take advantage of this to generate IGR. For example Oyo state is the second largest producer of cassaver after Edo in Nigeria. We need to take advantage of this.
Finally, he urged the people of Oyo State and Nigeria to put their trust
in God and pray for things to turn around for better.
