
Despite being born by Muslim parents, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 has revealed how he was groomed as a child by Christians.
He also commended members of the Christian community for their love, support and cooperation towards him since his coronation as monarch.
Oba Adetunji made these submissions at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace while welcoming members of the Anglican Communion, Ibadan Diocese led by the Most Reverend Joseph Olatunji Akinfenwa on Monday.
The first class monarch also used the opportunity to thank Christian leaders who visited him after coronation in his palace. He mentioned the CAN President, Dr. Supo Ayokunle; Bishop Francis Wale Oke; Pastor S. K Abiara; Pastor Olapade Odunayo; Bishop Taiwo Adelakun; Papa Olowere and others.
According to the Ibadan paramount ruler, one of the things that gives him joy concerning the people of Western Nigeria, particularly Ibadan is that religious bigotry has no place.
“When I was growing up I was groomed by christians. They taught me some value which are helpful and unforgettable.”
Earlier, the leader of the delegation Arch Bishop Akinfenwa prayed God to give the monarch and his chiefs wisdom, knowledge and understanding. He also prayed God to give Ibadan peace and progress during the reign of Oba Adetunji.
