In an attempt to clarify his actual name, the Nigerian Midfielder and Chelsea veteran player, John Mikel Obi has officially changed his name to Mikel John Obi.

Reports from UK Mirror revealed that the Guus Hiddink favourite was born John Michael Nchekwube Obinna. He was never actually called ‘Mikel’.

‘Mikel’ only became a thing when the Nigerian FA mistakenly used Mikel instead of Michael on his submission form for the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championships.

Due to this official change of name, fans will have start calling him Mikel John Obi despite the fact that he has been so happy to be called John Obi Mikel since he joined Chelsea in 2006.
