The caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to shun the exparte order issued by Justice Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, stopping the August 17 scheduled national convention of the party.
Justice Abang despite a protest at his court and petition to the Chief Justice of Federation by the PDP Youths on Wednesday accusing him of plotting to assist embattled former National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff in stopping the rescheduled convention of the party, the jurist yesterday issued the order prohibiting the opposition party from holding the elective convention.
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had some weeks ago validated the caretaker Committee ad the legal and only body permitted by law to lead the PDP.
The court in its final judgement stated clearly that Ali Modu Sheriff does not have any right to the Chairman seat of the party and ordered him to stop parading himself as the Chairman of the PDP.
Though, Modu Sheriff has appealed the judgement, however, his demand for the court-rejected stay of execution order.
However, a new twist was inserted into the matter yesterday by the order given by Justice Abang.
At a meeting held last night by the caretaker Committee, a source present at the meeting told CEOAFRICA source in confidence that a decision was taken by the caretaker members to ignore the exparte order and continue with the plans for the convention.
The source told CEOAFRICA source that the members of the caretaker Committee were united in their condemnation of the order saying it was a plot to scuttle the plans of the party to put itself in proper perspective to function as a real opposition party.
The Committee it was said, noted that it does not have time on its side any more as it’s tenure as approved at the May 21 convention in Port Harcourt ends effectively on August 21.
From all indications, it is not possible to extend the life span of the caretaker Committee unless a convention was held to do so.
“We are going ahead with our convention. Justice Abang and Modu Sheriff who has boasted that the judge is his friend and ally cannot stop us.
“it will be keenly contested if anyone will make any attempt at declaring is as going against the order of the court.
“What the court gave to Modu-Sheriff today (yesterday) was an empty order because we already have a declaratory judgement from a competent court of law which empower us to go ahead and function as the real leadership of the party until August 21.
