After about six weeks away from the dug out of Akwa United, Belgian Maurice Cooreman returned to his duty post early this week and assured the club’s management that he would work harmoniously with his assistant coaches.

Cooreman was initially suspended for a month but it was surprisingly extended by an additional two weeks by the Paul Bassey-led management because of his lone attitude to decision making among other issues that should normally involve his subordinates.

Bassey came out with a stern warning that Cooreman must learn to work with his assistant coaches if he does not want to lose his job and the resumption of the expatriate to work on Monday denoted that he had satisfied the management’s requirements.

Club spokesman Uwem Ekoh told Goal that the Belgian handled Monday evening’s training session barely a day after the team defeated El Kanemi Warriors in a Match Day 23 tie and that the Belgian ‘s body language showed that he had settled the differences he had with his assistant coaches.

“I want to confirm to you that our head coach, Maurice Cooreman is back in charge of the team after the expiration of his suspension. He was around on Monday evening to handle the training session and has been conducting it ever since.

“We decided to train on Monday evening just a day after our home match with El Kanemi Warriors because we do not have much time on our hands. We want to keep focus and striving to maintain our form. Cooreman has promised to work with other assistant coaches,” Ekoh concluded.

Ekoh also confirmed that long term absentee, Michael Ibeh who copped a knee injury during the first round of the league has resumed light training in anticipation of his return to competitive football shortly.

Akwa United are sixth on the log of the with 32 points from 22 matches and they are away to Heartland this weekend in a Match Day 24 clash in Owerri.
