The government of the United Kingdom on Wednesday refuted reports in some national dailies alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari was in London at its instance to meet with former president Goodluck Jonathan with a view to addressing the current crisis in the Niger Delta region.

The rebuttal was contained in a terse statement issued by the Press Officer of the British High Commission in Abuja, Joe Abuku.

Buhari is currently in London to take care of minor health issue.

The statement read: “Media reports suggesting that the British government has set up a meeting with President Buhari, former President Jonathan and representatives of Niger Delta groups to discuss a solution to recent violence in the Niger Delta region are incorrect.

“We are aware that President Buhari is currently in London seeking medical attention. We are not aware of any meetings on the Niger Delta while he is there.”
