Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has advised the people of the state, especially stakeholders in the education sector, to guard against getting enlisted by individuals or groups who peddle misinformation and innuendoes to shoot down genuine initiatives of the government.
The governor gave the advice while addressing members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo State chapter, at his office, at the weekend. The students’ leaders met with the governor on the proposed public-private participatory management of some public secondary schools in the state, an initiative that had pit labour against the government.
The South-West Zonal Secretary of NANS, Mr. Olanrewaju Oloja, said the students decided to hear from the horse’s mouth because of their concern for the welfare of teachers and the future of students in the public schools likely to be affected in the new initiative. He noted that students of today were highly cerebral and possessed knowledge that would not allow them to be used as instruments in the hands of anybody to cause chaos and disaffection anywhere in the state.
