The Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has expressed concern that about 70 percent of drivers attached to governors operate with expired licences and are not well schooled in convoy driving.

Oyeyemi stated this yesterday when he paid a visit to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello in Government House, Minna in continuation of the Commission’s sensitaisation on use of standard tyres.

Represented by Kayode Olagunju, Assistant Corps Marshall/Head Policy, Research and Statistics, Oyeyemi commended the Bello for the massive construction and rehabilitation of roads network within the state, adding that this will help reduce carnages on highways and save lives of motorists in the state.

He said the federal government was working towards organising a sensitisation programme for drivers on the convoy of chief executives.

On the nationwide sensitisation on use of standard tyres, the Corps Marshal explained that the lack of knowledge on the expiration date of tyres by drivers had led to the loss of lives and other challenges in traffic management in the country.

According to him, a good percentage of road crashes were caused by expired tyres, adding that people do not take the issue of tyres seriously.

He said the usage of expired tyres, over inflating and under inflating were among the challenges in traffic management in the country.

Responding, Bello commended the effort of the FRSC for the bold step taken and assured the commission of the state’s readiness to work with it and other federal organisations in the state.
