Former President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Peter Isele, has stated that the recent strike action initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) failed because of a ‘technical fault’.
He advised the labour unionists to always get their acts right before calling for strike action.
Comrade Esele made the assertion in a chat in his office in Benin recently.
“If you look at the protests that have been carried out, you will see what I call a technical fault has been made. In the game of Lawn Tennis, they will say a double fault.
“There were some errors made by the labour leadership. When you give notice, you don’t just give notice to the government you also give it to yourself so that you prepare ground for whatever action you want to take,” he stated.
He said that the strike action was doomed to fail because of the internal wrangling that characterised the labour leadership.
Esele advised the leaders of the different factions of the labour union to unite for the sake of making a headway in its numerous demands for better living conditions for Nigerian workers.
On his aspiration to govern Edo State starting from November, the ex-labour unionist said that he is a social democrat who is desirous of ensuring that the wheel of good governance does not grind to a halt in the state after the exit of the incumbent governor, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole.
