ormer Senate President, Senator David Mark has charged newly elected executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the North Central zone to ensure that they make sacrifices to bring back the glory of the party come 2019.

Mark who gave this call while speaking at the PDP 2016 North Central Zonal Congress held at the Apo resettlement Town Hall in Abuja, said that the PDP has learnt its lesson during the last general elections and members of the party are ready to correct the mistake the party made in the past.

According to the former Senate President, when the mistakes are corrected by members of the party, they will be up and doing and will win every election in Nigeria.

He said that Nigerians now understand that the PDP is the right party to be in government, but they have to be patient for the next three years for PDP to start winning elections convincingly.

“So far, all the reruns that have been done, PDP has won in all of them. I think that is a track record and it means that we have to run a little more and we will be there. I want to appreciate the elders in the party, we have been able to resolve one or two issues that would have affected our unity as a party.

“I also want to appreciate the people of Plateau state for making it possible for the elders to resolve the small difference in the party. PDP must now stand united, because our strength is in our unity and our weakness is in our division.

“We will not be divided, we must subject our individual and personal interest to the collective interest of the party. That is the only way we can make progress. Soon the campaigns will start and this North central zone will make efforts to come to the forefronts of leading the PDP in the whole of the northern zones.

“We must work conscientiously and in a way that is free and fair, not by our own judgment, but by the judgement of all of us collectively. The leaders must lead by example and should make endless sacrifices for us to come back strong the way we were in 1999,” he said.

The Congress which saw accreditation of party delegates across the six North central states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), later concluded with the party leaders and delegates agreeing on a consensus that led to the nomination of the new party executives.

In their acceptance speeches, Alhaji Theophilus Dakar Shan who was elected the new zonal Chairman and Mr. Moris Tsav who was elected the new zonal Secretary, promised to work selflessly in the interest of the party and ensure that the PDP lost glory is restored.

Senator Philip Aduda representing FCT explained how the zonal party leaders arrived on consensus election, saying that it was a process that demonstrated democratic principles.
