Unidentified gunmen suspected to be militants have launched a failed attack on the Federal Prisons in Port Harcourt as heavy gunshots were heard at the prison location late Monday night.

No group has claimed responsibilities for the attack yet as reasons for the attacks are still sketchy

Efforts to get details of the situation at the Port Harcourt prisons have been difficult as the Controller and Deputy Controller of prisons are unreachable.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed-up in and around the prison premises and the area has been cordoned off.
