Hajia Aisha Buhari, wife of the President, has charged the wives of the state governors in the country to embark on charity and work work on environment for the development of the country and humanity.
Aisha Buhari gave the charge when she spoke at the 50th birthday celebration of the Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun, commending her efforts to improve on the environment.
Speaking on the theme: “Greening the Economy” under Mrs. Amosun pet project, “Uplift Development Foundation,” Mrs. Buhari noted that such efforts would complement the move by the Federal Government for a better society.
Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, chairman of the occasion, equally described the focus of Mrs. Amosun to environment as timely, noting that the change in the country’s green line is coming towards the southern region.
He said: “Environmental degradation in our country’s development has taken a very high toll on the environment and one needs to look around, especially Northern region of Nigeria where there is desertification which is threatening the lives of everybody. Population in Nigeria is moving southward and the result is that we are competing for space in the Greenland of the region.”
Some former and serving senators and House of Representatives members, led by Senator Ken Nnamani, former Senate President, also eulogised Mrs. Amosun for her doggedness at improving the environment.
Also speaking, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the state governor, commended his wife for standing behind him and the family, stressing that her understanding has been exemplary having spent half of her life with him.
