There is an ongoing pandemonium as a yet-to-be-identified soldier has allegedly gunned down a bride-to-be at Jakpa junction, near Effurun market in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

A witness said the lady, who was billed to wed this morning about 8:00a.m, was on her way to the village aboard a tricycle when the incident happened.

It was gathered that the soldier aimed the gun at the rider, but mistakenly hit the lady who was sitting at the back.

Witnesses said trouble started when the keke rider refused to part with some money for violating the monthly environmental sanitation order.

The soldier was said to have been newly transferred to Effurun last Wednesday after petitions were written to relocate the previous soldiers who were said to have begun to misbehave.

The deceased bride-to-be was said to be clutching her wedding clothes in the pool of her blood after being gunned down.

Another witness said having seen his folly, the soldier ordered the keke rider to convey the bleeding bride-to-be to a nearby hospital for treatment.

But as the keke driver moved some meters away  from the soldier unaccompanied, he pushed the corpse into the roadside and fled.

A pandemonium eventually ensued, as angry youths in the area mobilized themselves to attack the soldier.

Members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) were said to have been swiftly mobilized to the area as sporadic shootings began to rock the area.

An unconfirmed report say no fewer than four persons have been hit by stray bullets as the ammunition were said to be flying around and hitting walls.

As of the time of filing this report, heavy shootings were ongoing, and no official reaction could be got.
