For diverting petroleum products and selling above the official government approved price, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed off major filling stations in Adamawa and Taraba States.
Musa Akenn, Controller of Operations of DPR in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, States, Sunday disclosed this in an interview with Newsmen in Yola the Adamawa State capital at the weekend.
Musa Akenn, Sunday lamented that A. A. Salisu who owns filling stations across Adamawa and Taraba States have singlehandedly diverted more than 190,000 litres of petroleum products meant for the two states.
The State Controller further revealed that the owner of the filling station is a major marketer whose filling stations are used by fuel cartels in the North East of the country to divert petroleum product and also sell the product above the government regulated pump price in Adamawa and Taraba States.
He also told Newsmen during his visit to Numan Local Government Area of the state that the filling station engages itself in an illegal deal noting that 3000 liters of PMS product diverted by the station was recovered and returned for sale to the public at official pump price.
Akenn maintained that to serve as deterrent to others who might be nursing the intention of engaging in such shoddy business, A. A. Salihu is to pay N200 per every 192,000 diverted and the sum recovered put in the coffers of the Federal Government.
Reacting to the alleged diversion, the manager of the Filling Station Alhaji Lawal Bello claims he was been witch hunted by the DPR even as other stations were selling the product above the government regulated price in the state and neighbouring Gombe State and that nothing has happened to them.
However, a motorists Jibrilla Umaru who spoke on the issue commended DPR for the action taken, adding that many stations within the area and the state in particular will stop selling above government regulated price.
