Delta win karate tourney

Delta State on Sunday won  the 2016 National Karate Open Championships  in Asaba, Delta State after winning eight gold, four silver and eight bronze.

The competition was organised by the Karate Federation of Nigeria.

According to the medals table of the competition released by the KFN, the Federal Capital Territory  came second with two gold, two silver and two bronze while Cross River  State placed third with two gold.

The President of the federation, Donatus Agu–Ejidike, said in a statement that the championship would  be used to select the athletes that would represent  the country  at the  African Championships in Algeria in August.

“I am  excited at the level of competition witnessed at the competition and I am glad that the competition went without hitches,” he said.

“The technical department  and the national team coaches will begin work on the selection of the athletes that will represent us at the African Championships. The seminar for coaches and athletes was also a success and I believe we will continue to achieve success.”
