Rivers Rerun: APC, PDP candidates head to election tribunal

Ten candidates who are not satisfied with the result of March 19 national and state assemblies rerun elections have forwarded their petitions to Petition Tribunal sitting in Port-Harcourt.

The Petition Tribunal has also confirmed that it has received ten petitions arising from the March 19 rerun elections in Rivers state.

The Secretary of the tribunal S.A Gusau in a statement said two of the petitions were filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidates for Opobo/Nkoro and Akuku-Toru state constituency-two.

The statement also said eight of the petitions were filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidates.

One of the petitions filed by the APC is challenging the election of Blessing Nsiegbe of the PDP for Port-Harcourt Federal Constituency-Two seat while the remaining seven petitions of the APC are challenging the elections of PDP candidates for state constituency seats.

The state constituency elections been challenged by the APC include: Omuma, Ahoada East Constituency 1 and 2, Obio/Akpor Constituency 1 and 2, Emohua and Degema state constituencies.

The tribunal did not say when legal fireworks will start.
