The Chairman of Senate Committee on Air Force, Duro Faseyi
The Chairman of Senate Committee on Air Force, Duro Faseyi, has described as "an insult, disrespect and a ruse to Ekiti State and its people," the settlement of the crisis between Governor Ayodele Fayose and a former secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Dr Tope Aluko.
Sen Faseyi, lamented that "the latest development is nothing but a charade and comedy of the highest order which must not be taken seriously at all."
Faseyi said "Ekiti people do not in any way appreciate the manner and ways the whole truce is being handled, therefore it is not acceptable at all because the issue had gone beyond the duo alone."
According to him, "it was shocking to hear the purported meeting between Governor Fayose and Dr Aluko, despite all the damage that had been done so far by the same Aluko over the 2014 governorship election."
He said "Ekiti People are wise and they cannot be deceived by the antics of Dr Aluko, who had came out at different fora to discredit the wishes of the generality of Ekiti electorate over the poll.
"The scenario raised by the outcome of the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State within civilian and military circles in the country, has gone beyond a personal relationship between Governor Fayose and Dr Aluko and it must also be seen beyond that by all.
"Ekiti's image has been dented and maligned because of the imbroglio. Therefore, the purported truce cannot be handled like a misunderstanding between a wife and husband anymore."
Sen Faseyi said "apart from the image of the PDP which had been destroyed as a political party, Ekiti State as an entity has also been exposed to undeserved ridicule in the comity of states in Nigeria and beyond."
According to him, "although many people may see the truce between the governor and his erstwhile political associate Aluko as a step to ensure peaceful coexistence between the duo, but the truth of the matter is that the issue has gone beyond the two players.
"Integrity and honour are known to be the benchmarks of all Ekiti people in all situations but the latest development has cast great aspersions on the image of the people of the state both at home and in the diaspora. Therefore the needful on the matter which is more than a secret truce must be done to salvage the image of the state."
Faseyi noted that "there have been allegations and counter-allegations over the 2014 governorship election in the state to the extent that many innocent military personnel had been punished for offences not committed, how can we resolve that?"
The senator said "Governor Fayose may have large heart to forgive people easily, which is a good hallmark of a great leader, but the fact remains that, the issue has gone beyond him as a person due to havoc that has been wrecked."
He said "any secret meeting or resolution of the matter is not acceptable to all Ekiti people because of our integrity which we must always protect at all times."
