A non-profit making organisation in Ibadan, Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAI), is set to donate a student library for Apete Community in Ibadan, which is already undergoing construction.
The Director, Mr Olanrewaju Gideon explained that one of the best ways to build the next generations of conscientious citizens and responsible leaders while building peaceful and inclusive communities is through provision of community and schools libraries.
“Investing in this is another way of pushing our mantra, which is redefining the state of quality education in Nigeria and since education is the foundation of sustainable development, we believe we are writing the Nigerian story assertively.
“The organisation has gone ahead to get hundreds of books from donors and library chairs and tables from MTN Foundation. Also, the library will be located in a public school in Apete, which presently has no library. Students of the school and those residing in the community will have free access to the services of the library,” he said.
Mr Gideon further explained that AREAi works predominantly by organising and channeling physical, material and financial resources towards providing core rural educational reforms that would help bridge the alarming gap of quality education available to children in the rural areas and those in urban areas.
“Most interestingly, AREAi's concept is designed in compliance with UNESCO model of quality education, which comprises of learners, learning environment, content, processes and outcomes. To deliver on this four different programmes are selectively carried out in target communities over a stipulated time-frame,” he said.
