Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi (III), has described Yoruba culture as a very rich one, urging Yoruba sons and daughters to embrace its traditions lest it goes into extinction.

The monarch said this in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital at the ‘Cultural Day’ organised by the Faculty of Laws, Lead City University (LCU), Ibadan, as part of activities marking its 2016 Law Week.

The monarch, who was represented by a team of the Oyo Kingmakers (Oyomesi), among them the Samu of Oyo High Chief Lamidi Oyewale, and Lagunna of Oyo, High Chief Bello Odutale, and Princes and Princesses led by his wife, Olori Folasade Adeyemi, said there was nothing more dignifying than embracing and promoting Yoruba cultural heritage and traditions.

He said the Yoruba culture and tradition were the best to bequeath to one’s children, as they appreciate and promote honesty, hard work, sincerity, love, respect and peaceful co-existence. Appreciating the gesture of the students in promoting the Yoruba culture and tradition, the Alaafin said:

“I commend you for promoting our culture and I urge you all not to relent in doing more of these events.” Speaking at the event, the Dean, Faculty of Law, LCU, Dr. Shittu Bello, said the event was organised by the faculty to promote culture and show that they were part of it
