The federal government has been urged to exploit the potentials of the non-state actors (NSAs) in the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) framework to boost economic growth due to its wide acceptability.
This is part of the resolutions of a two-day NSA sensitisation workshop on CAADP meant to review the 2014 Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, Declaration on Agricultural Transformation organised by civil society organisations (CSOs) and other international partners.

The president of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), Barrister Kenneth Ukaoha, told participants at the seminar that 50 of the 54 African countries are using the CAADP structure in agricultural planning and, thus Nigeria, which has the largest membership of the NSAs, should benefit from their collective potentials.
The CAADP , an African Union and NEPAD continent-wide structure within which African countries aim at helping countries to accelerate economic growth, reduce poverty and enhance food security amongst others, has been reorganized as the expression of agricultural policy by African states and citizens of the continent.
Ukaoha said that with the drastic drop in the price of crude oil and the need to diversify the economy, one of the key objectives of the workshop is to draft an action plan for areas in which the NSAs’ engagement in the CADDP process can be strengthened for the implementation of the Malabo Declaration.
“A critical look at the Malabo Declaration informs that that the narrative is not limited to the campaign for 10 per cent allocation of the national budget, but also on other critical sectors such as stunting to 10 per cent, halving poverty by 2025 through inclusive agricultural growth and transformation and creating job opportunities for, at least, 30 per cent of the youth in agricultural value-chains,” Ukaoha said.
