Abaji: Bello vows to prosecute perpetrators of political violence

inister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Musa Bello, has warned that all perpetrators of the political violence that led to the attack of opponents in Abaji, the capital of Abaji Area Councils would bearrested and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Bello reiterated that all those involved irrespective ofpolitical affiliations would be arrested and prosecuted to serve asdeterrent to those who may wish to copy that anti-social behavior.

The Minister asserted this on Tuesday, at the National Assembly Complex while briefing the House ofRepresentatives Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matter onthe preparedness of the FCT Administration for the rescheduled AreaCouncils Elections.

He said, “I have already directed the Security Agencies to ensure that all those involved irrespective of their political lining be arrested as the law would take it full course.

“The FCT Administration would partner with all stakeholdersto ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in any part ofthe Federal Capital Territory.”

Bello insisted that the FCT Area Councils’ elections must beconducted peacefully and therefore urged all political gladiators towarn their followers not to be involved in political thuggery.

He emphasized that all the flashpoints have been identified across theTerritory and would be effectively monitored to guarantee that law andorder is maintained before, during and after the FCT Area Councils’ Elections.

The Minister further revealed that the Administration has proactivelycontacted the Traditional Rulers on the need to reach out to theirsubjects on a peaceful election as well as mobilization of theresidents to come out en-masse to observe their civic responsibility.

He assured that the FCT Administration would continue tosupport the Security Agencies to enable them be on top of any unforeseen circumstance.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, House Committee on Interior, Hon. Adams Jagaba, who is also a member of the Committee has assured the FCTMinister that he would mobilize all the security agencies to fullysupport the FCT Administration in ensuring that the April 9, 2016elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

Meanwhile, in order to assess the general security situation, the FCT Security Committee metyesterday at the FCT Minister’s Residence, in Gwarinpa District.

Bello who presided over the meeting remarked that the meeting was summoned not only to assess the situation but to also strategize on how to nip in the bud any security breach as the Area Councils go to polls.

Making contributions during the meeting, the FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu addressed the political gladiators stressing, “enough of rascality”.

He informed the meeting that the suspects are now fugitives, because they no longer sleep in their houses but assured that the Police is on their trail; adding that they must surely be brought to book.

The FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye, the FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr. Adamu Ismaila, FCT Police Commissioner, FCT Director of DSS, Commander Guards Brigade, Commander DHQ Garrison, Commander Navy Unit, Commander NAF Camp, Commander NSCDC, Commandant of FRSC, Heads of Prison, Head of NDLEA in FCT were also in attendance at the meeting.

Others at the meeting included the Directors of FCT DRTS (VIO), Security and Advisory Services Departments; Ona of Abaji/Chairman, FCT Council of Chiefs and the Chairmen of the six Area Councils.
