President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to deal ruthlessly with those found culpable in the abuse of public trust in the country just as he vowed to expose how the elites conspired to run down the nation. The President in an interactive meeting with Nigerians in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, according to a statement made available to newsmen by his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, also ruled out the possibility of establishing a national carrier.

This is just as he promised to deal with perpetrators of violence in the country. The President assured Nigerians in Equatorial Guinea that his administration’s war against corruption will remain “fearless, relentless and merciless”. “We will be merciless and relentless in pursuing all those who abused public trust. Nigerians will see how some of the elite conspired to run the nation down,” he said.

The President who condemned the recent political violence in Rivers state said the killing of people over political differences was primitive, barbaric and unacceptable. He said “We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given the security services clear directives in this regard.

We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections.” While responding to complaints by members of the Nigerian community about the absence of direct flights between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, Buhari ruled out the possibility of establishing a new national airline.

He said such was not currently on the Federal Government’s list of priorities. The President however declared that his administration’s main area of focus now was reducing the level of poverty in the country.
