March 4, 2016 remains an unforgettable day in the history of the people of Ibadan land as the new king OBA SALIU AKANMU OLASUPO ADETUNJI ascend the Olubadan Throne. The city was held to a standstill as lots of dignitaries from home and away troop into the city of Ibadan to felicitate with the new king. Mapo hall received notables of personnel in Nigeria for the event. The government and people of Oyo have been making sure that the city is in good shape to welcome all and sundry. Amongst the dignitaries at the event were National Leader of the All Progress Congress APC in the person of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, The Ooni of ife, The governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Ogun State Senator ibikunle Amosun , Sultan of Sokoto , Pastor S. K. Abiara, Honourable Fijabi, Prof Dipo Afolabi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Abel Olayinka, comptroller of customs in Oyo state, The Commandant of the Nigeria Security &Civil Defence Corps, the sector commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Yusuf Salami, Commandant of NDLEA Oyo State, Governor Rauf Aaregbesola of Osun State, Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, former Governor Alao Akala, The Oyo State commissioner of police Leye Oyebade, The Governor of central Bank just to mention few. In the welcome address of the olubadan, The new king give thanks to Almighty Allah, the people of Oyo and the government for crowing him as the 41st olubadan of Ibadan land 40years after he assumed the leadership of his clan and immediate environment as mogaji. He said his first promotion, which was in 1978 when he was appointed the Jagun Balogun made today possible to be crowned as the 41st olubadan of Ibadan land. He promised to do his utmost best for the peace, progress, and development of Ibadan land and Nigeria in general. As a traditional ruler, he stressed the need for the people of Oyo State to inculcate in their children the culture of speaking in the mother’s tongue that is the dialect of Ibadan. Speaking at the event during his speech the governor of Oyo State, Sen Ajimobi said having satisfied all the requirement demanded by the chief law of Ibadan that the new olubadan his qualified to be the new olubadan. The new 41st oluban of Ibadan was born in 1928 into the family of Alhaji Adetunji Family of the alusekere compound. The oluban is known to be a business tycoon, a marketing guru and a music promoter who owns Babalaje and Adetunji records respectively. Amongst the products of the king is the current Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, Ayinde Barrister of late and many more. The governor said the olubadan are expected to be a leader of all who must be sound, and knows how to talk as part of the responsibilities of governing 11 local governments under the city. The king must shoulder responsibility for peace and progress and maintain a rancor free state. The acceptability of the olubadan of Ibadan land is wider beyond the scope of the city and the dignity should be maintained with the help of GOD. The new king was conferred upon by the governor by the power vested on him as the the 41st olubadan of Ibadan land.
