
Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo, GCFR, was a Nigerian nationalist and statesman who played a key role in Nigeria's independence movement, the First and Second Republics and the Civil War.
Ikenne-Remo, the home of the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, is hosting eminent Nigerians from different walks of life, currently, at the Efunyela Hall residence of the Awolowo's, for the 2016 Obafemi Awolowo Birthday Commemorative Symposium.
The symposium is being organised by the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation.
The theme of the programme is: 'Awo,Then and Now: Politics, Economics and Education.'
Dignitaries at the programme are endless and include the governors of Ogun Kaduna and Ondo, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Mallam Nasir El-Rufia and Dr.Olusegun Mimiko.
El-Rufai is the chairman of the one-day symposium, while Mimiko is represented by the Commissioner for Technical and Higher Education, Mr. Remi Olatubora.
Other distinguished Nigerians already in attendance are Chief Bisi Akande, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Sir Olaniwun Ajayi and Senator Femi Okurounmu.
