Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Sunday, said there was no spiritual attachment to the demolition of roundabouts on major roads in Lokoja, the state capital.

He said rather, the demolition was part of efforts of government at giving Lokoja a face lift to be able to meet the standard of modern day state capital.

No fewer than seven roundabouts, including the one in front of the Lugard House, have been demolished with the exercise carried out in the night.

The development, has however, led to various insinuations, with many saying the roundabouts were ordered to be pulled down because of revelations of marabout to the governor.

Some people claimed that the clerics were brought into the state capital from Senegal to perform the cleansing of the Government House, adding that this was why the governor was yet to move to the Government House, since his inauguration on January 27.

However, debunking the insinuations, Bello said the demolition was meant to give way to new ones that would befit Lokoja as a state capital, adding that the move was aimed at replacing them with those that meet the architectural requirements of the town's renewal plans.

He said his administration was committed to improving the beauty of the city, adding that aesthetic would be added to make the town attractive to investors.

The governor in a statement in Lokoja signed by his Chief Press Secretary, (CPS), Kingsley Fanwo, said the old roundabouts have contributed to the dehumanising and unattractiveness of the city that once served as Nigeria capital.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Bello has reiterated his plans to turn the state to an industrial giant that is capable of leading the nation to a new era of economic prosperity.

The governor said this after some strategic meetings with the key players in the agriculture and mining in sectors in Abuja.

According to a statement by   the CPS to the governor, Kingsley Fanwo, on Sunday, said the governor had identified the key drivers to rebound the economy of the state.
