Nigerian Artiste, Shawncriis
An Australian based record label, Rulers Records, has signed on its first Nigerian artiste, Shawncriis, to a five year recording contract.
The international record label which intends to invest in the booming industry and has been on the hunt for a Nigerian star has discovered Christain Oluwayomi Odeneye, also known as Shawncriis, a Ghanaian based Nigerian entertainer, as its preferred choice.
The official contract signing and endorsement ceremony which was held at the Beerhubz of Ikeja City Mall, Lagos during the week in the presence of newsmen was attended by the co-founder of the label, Tobiaz Kings, the Nigerian label producer, Jocky-B, the signee, Shawncriis among others.
Speaking during the official signing of the contract, the co-founder of Rulers Records, Tobiaz Kings, who enumerated the regimented process of selecting a recording artiste, expressed confidence in the choice of a Nigerian artiste, stressing the importance of Nigeria in the global music industry.
He said, “We started back in 2009, but officially registered as an Australian business early in 2015. And from then on, we have been scouting for artistes. We have about six artistes lined up in Australia at the moment. We go through a lot of processes before actually signing artiste, but we want to come to Nigeria.
This country is full of resources. There are so many beautiful young kids with so much talent here. This is one of the biggest market in Africa and a major contributor to global music, and you wanna tap in there. That is why we are here. We want to be part of something great”.
“Overseas, we recognize African artistes and what we trying to do with our signing today is to get someone who can tap into other genres of music and can relate to audiences across the continents with his blend of African and international vibes. We believe that Shawncriis has got all these qualities because he can sing, he can rap and he can play instruments.
“We think that he can sing the songs that Australians and Americans will love because we have major distributions in both countries“.
Shawncriis, who participated actively in the contract signing, will among other benefits make an official tour to Australia later in the year while his songs will be widely distributed to the base country and the United States.
Speaking on how he intends to excel in the global market, the Ijebu-Ode born Shawncriis, who majors in Afropop, rap and RnB said, “I will take Naija with me everywhere I go”.
