Friday saw the nomination of a new FIFA president as Gianni Infantino won the election, along with the world game’s new leader unveiling some key points of his program.

The former UEFA general secretary takes over from Sepp Blatter, who had been in office since 1998, as he beat out competition from Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan and Jerome Champagne.

In his program the new FIFA president includes the proposal for a 40-team World Cup, and with the possibility of multiple countries serving as hosts for the tournament.

New FIFA president Gianni Infantino reacts after winning the FIFA presidential election during the extraordinary FIFA Congress in Zurich on February 26, 2016.

Infantino has also promised that more money will make its way to the FIFA family, amounting to about €4.5 million per member federation and €36.5m for each confederation.

The topic of technology was also another issue Infantino plans to tackle, with a meeting set to take place with the International Football Association Board over the use of television replay during games.

It took two turns before Infantino finally emerged victorious with 115 of the 207 votes, beating out his closest rival Sheikh Salman, who had 88. The 45-year-old will serve three mandates at most, equaling to no more than 12 years.
