The government of Nigeria and its Asian counterpart, Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) are set to sign a grant agreement of about 11
million dollars to provide grant aid for emergency improvement of
electricity supply facilities in Abuja.

A statement by JICA disclosed that the project is aimed at procuring and
installing power capacitor banks at the existing 132/33kV Apo substation in
Abuja and 132/33kV Keffi substation in neighbouring Nasarawa State.

This will reduce the voltage drop in the power transmission system,
decrease the transmission power loss in the region, and improve the quality
of the power supply. In addition, it is expected to provide a stable power
supply to approximately 7,000 households.

The agreement is expected to be signed tomorrow, February 11.
