Ekiti state government has suggested tourism as a viable alternative sector towards uplifting Nigeria’s economy that is presently down following the slump in the oil price.
Making the suggestion during a press briefing marking the beginning of Miss Culture 2016, a programme being planned by Ebony T. Creation, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, said the country’s economy will spring up if the government can diversify into tourism rather than depending solely on oil.
The Commissioner, said, though the present economic downturn in the country must have brought about hardship and slowed down the speed of development, saying the situation has helped in bringing out the best initiatives out of those in government and other citizens.
He further said that the current economic situation has brought about the best thinking and planning from Nigerians. In Ekiti, we have several untapped solid minerals like Feldspar, gypsum and clay.
