
For not coming to school for two days in order to source money and pay exam fees, Halifa Abdurrazak a Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1 student at GJSS Tokarawa, Nassarawa local government area in Kano State was asked to do frog jump until he met his death.
The late student, who was conspicuously absent for two days from school in a bid to get money to settle the fees however, resumed without the funds, a situation that infuriated his teacher (name withheld) who subjected him to strenuous frog jump punishment.
Young Abdurrazak started complaining of serious thigh and legs pains that when he got home and could not stand on his feet.
He subsequently landed in the hospital for urgent medical attention, but gave us the ghost after some complications.
His step father, Ibrahim Garba, who spoke on the pathetic issue, informed that, on getting home that fateful day, he noticed the difficulty Halifa was having with both legs and inquiries made on the deceased revealed that the problems arose from the punishment his teacher game him.
He lamented that it would have been better for the school to return his ward back home for not bringing the exam fees instead of subjecting him to the strenuous punishment of frog jump that terminated his hope of attaining one of life’s most-cherished ambition.
Malam Garba queried the rationale of the school’s insistence on payment of fees from students despite government’s priomise to provide free education at all levels throughout the state.
He lamented further that had he known little Halifa would lose his life, he would have stopped him from going to the school that fateful day.
Garba has now appealed to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and other stakeholders to come to the aid of his family at this moment and ensure that justice is done.
Police in the state have also swung into action by launching of an investigation team into the matter to ascertain the truth in the matter.
