Group Calls On Mark To Step Down
Ahead of the Benue South senatorial rerun, a group of prominent Idoma citizens under the umbrella of Concerned Idoma Citizens has called on former Senate president, David Mark to back out from the race. The group said, having assessed Mark’s political achievements in Idoma land, and Benue South within his 16 years in the Senate, it has concluded that it was high time for him to pull out for fresh and preferably vibrant person to step in.
Group in a statement by its chairman, Paulinus Okwori, wondered why Mark has chosen to return to the senate as a floor member, having served as the number three man in the nation for eight years.
He said: “Mark`s 16 years in the senate is a complete disaster. His achievements were only seen on the pages of newspapers and blogs.
“As the number three man in the nation for eight years, his kinsmen back home had no portable water. The roads in his constituency are in deplorable condition and even the ones the federal government paid for were not executed by his recommended contractors.
“It is sad, yet, shameful that Mark is asking for votes from Idoma people he betrayed.
“He has been using the creation of Apa State as a gimmick to hoodwink our people. He promised to use the last drop of his blood to create Apa State; now the story has changed.”
The statement added, it is shameful for Mark and his praise singers to continue to name just three uncompleted projects as his achievements after 16 years.
These are the Oweto road, Dam in Otukpo and a University of Medical Sciences saying: “Should this be a credit or a discredit since these projects are either nonexistent or are still below 30% completion?
“His divisive politics of Idoma West versus Idoma North and this time, the Tiv sponsoring his opponents will not stand..We are tired of these lame tactics and divide and rule politics.”
Okwori further accused the ex-soldier of championing the statement purportedly issued by some persons who claimed to be Idoma Elders recently that asked the federal government to sack the Chief of Defence, Intelligence, AVM Morgan.
“What should make a Man like David Mark uses his supporters to call on the President to sack from service a junior brother, AVM Monday Morgan as the Chief of Defense Intelligence who had through dint of hard work and excellent service reached the pinnacle of the Military and even attained the 35 years mark in service.
“We thank the Honourable Senator for his 16 years of disservice to Idomaland and request that he kindly give way to the young and progressive Daniel Onjeh of the APC,” the statement concluded.
