Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, said selfish leaders have hindered the growth and progress of the country. Obasanjo, who advised that every leader to make the interest of the governed paramount in his policies, spoke when the leadership and members of the Scout Association of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit and decorated him as Messenger of Peace Ambassador  for Africa at his Presidential Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta.

Noting that the decoration had rekindled memories of when he became Queen’s Scout, Obasanjo said for a leader to succeed he must always be prepared at all time to face challenges, especially unexpected challenges.

“We need a Scout spirit in our country not just for individual benefit alone but also for services to the nation. Work collectively and provide the leadership that will make us get progress”,he emphasised

Obasanjo further noted that the nation needs  to work collectively which the leadership that would make the nation progress in all spheres should be provided.

He assured the group that he would help it inform President Muhammadu Buhari to fix a date for his decoration as the Grand Patron of the association which is automatic in line with the association’s constitution.

Earlier in his speech, Chief Commissioner of Scout Association of Nigeria, Olusoga Sofola-Atibioke, said that the investiture of Obasanjo as its ambassador was to help build a peaceful and formidable Africa with special focus on Nigeria.
