Acting EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu
Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was spotted on Thursday, January 7, at Aso Rock, where he went to gain an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Magu’s visit to the villa came barely 24 hours after the anti-graft agency arrested Buhari’s ally and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Military Administrator of Kaduna State, Brig. Gen. Lawal Ja’afaru Isa.
It was not clear whether he was able to see the president as he spent few minutes in his office.
The EFCC boss came about the time the president was inaugurating the National Research and Innovation Council (NRIC).
National Mirror reports that Magu declined to speak to state house correspondents when he emerged from the president’s office.
It is pertinent to note that in recent times, EFCC has arrested some officials who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, including his former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and former minister of state for finance, Bashir Yuguda.
The spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, was also recently arrestedby the anti-graft body.
It would be recalled that the EFCC boss had on Wednesday, January 6, disclosed that more influential Nigerians would soon be arrested to face prosecution as the agency under him had reinvigorated itself for the fight against corruption.
According to Magu, since his appointment as acting chairman of the EFCC, he had taken steps to reorder priorities for effective implementation of its mandate
