
Eminent businessman and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast and committed to the Nigerian project regardless of the challenges facing the nation.
He said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is committed to rebuilding the country in the interest of the common man.
In a New Year message signed by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said: “It is with the grace of God that we are witnessing a new year. Let us welcome 2016 with a positive mindset as we reflect on our lives as individuals and as a nation. It is a year of renewed spirit and selflessness towards building a prosperous nation of our dream. We have to imbibe good moral conduct as a way of life to get to the promise land.”
Kalu urged Nigerians to shun violence as a way of registering their displeasure with government, noting that through genuine dialogue, grievances can be corrected, adding that peaceful co-existence remains a panacea for growth and development.
The former governor also enjoined those at the helm of affairs to make the peoples’ welfare a top priority in their 2016 agenda.
In his own goodwill message, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State call on Nigerians to remain united, irrespective of ethnic or political party differences.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, Okowa expressed the hope that 2016 would be a year of fulfilment.
Similarly, the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okoroccha, said he was grateful to God that the people of the state live in peace and shall continue to live in peace. In his New Year message, he said: “… I wish to solemnly state and with every sense of commitment that 2016 holds a lot of good things in store for the state and her people.
Also, a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, in his new year message called on Nigerians to work in concert for nation building and the consolidation of the dividends of our hard-earned democracy. He said: Every New Year such as this is a prime time for inner self-reflection, stocktaking, resolutions and covenants. Hence, I urge my compatriots to remember their country in their every day prayers and actions throughout 2016 and beyond.
