Akinyemi, emerges as Miss Oyo

Miss Foyeke Akinyemi, a 22 year old from Iseyin Local Government of Oyo State has emerged the new Miss Oyo for 2015. Akinyemi emerged winner in a beauty contest with 13 others selected across the 14 federal constituencies in the state held at the Premier Hotel in Ibadan on Sunday evening.

Speaking at the event, Gov Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State who was represented by Mr Michael Adeyemo, the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, said that the contest was to encourage the youth, saying the state would produce Miss Nigeria in future; the governor commended the organisers of the contest, urging them not to relent in promoting such events.

The head of the panel of judges, Mrs Angela Folarin, wife of former Senate Leader Teslim and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the April 2015 general election, while speaking with CEOAfrica, said the choice of the new queen was to have someone who will be able to represent Oyo State at the global level.

Similarly, some members of the House of Representatives from the state, who attended the occasion, described the occasion as “wonderful”.

Representatives like Sunday Adepoju (APC-Ibarapa East/Ido), Abiodun Awoloye (APC-Ibadan North), Saheed Fijabi(APC-IbadanSouth West/NorthWest), Temitope Olatoye(APC-Akinyele/Lagelu) and Gbenga Ojoawo (APC-Ibarapa Central/North were at the occasion.

Adepoju, who appreciated the organisers, said that the state could produce a Miss World from the event, urging participants not to shy away from whatever they had passion for. All the members of the House of Representatives at the programme were honoured for their responsiveness to their immediate communities.

Responding on behalf of other lawmakers at the occasion, Olatoye said that their group — Club 14 — would hand over a brand new car as the star prize to the new Miss Oyo.
